Now that you know a little about me, let me tell you how I ended up starting a personal blog and why I’m here!
Lately, travel nurse positions have been few and far between and life has been tough — so I decided to advocate for my mental health and take a couple months off work to focus on mentally recharging.
Realizing how mentally burnt out I was becoming again, I started looking for some self-advice from my journals.
This is where the lightbulb went off.
In one of these journals, I had written about wanting to start a personal blog to help others on a mental health journey.
My goal for starting this personal blog is to discuss many different aspects of mental health.
I want to use my experiences with mental health disorders to help others improve their own mental health and learn to live well! To help people understand the true complexity of what it is like to live with a mental illness (especially with BPD – boarder line personality disorder) and LEARN FROM MY EXPERIENCES.
I am an open book!
I will be sharing my knowledge on mental illness; self-care tips, tricks and ideas; interventions to help you live well with mental health illnesses and so much more!
Firstly, let me remind you, I am an ED nurse not a psychiatrist. However, I do have first-hand experience with having multiple mental health disorders.
Small background story about my mental health:
I have had an eating disorder pretty much my entire teenage and adult life and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder (BPD), anxiety, depression, and ADHD in my early twenties.
When I was first diagnosed, I spent 3 months partially hospitalized in a psychiatric facility – due to the severity of mania and psychosis I was experiencing. It took about 8 months without working to get on the right medications.
If I wasn’t with my fiancé at the time, I truly have no idea what I would have done. She has always been my rock.
Through all my mental health treatment, I’ve found writing to be my safe place. The place to express whatever is on my mind and write myself encouraging notes for future use.
I want to share my story to help decrease the stigma around mental health and to empower others to take control of theirs.
I have loved to write for as long as I can remember.
As a kid, I would ride in my mom’s backseat while she sold Avon and just write letters to people. In high school, I was in multiple create writing classes and co-editor of the school’s online website. I also took a few creative writing courses in my early college years.
Writing became a true passion when I started treatment for my mental health. I would journal for hours just talking to myself and leaving tid bits of advice for later use.
Reading through my journals, I found an entry about wanting to start a blog to get my experiences out there. To help other people understand and live well with different mental health issues.
I decided there is no time like the present!
I’m here for you!
To summarize: I want my readers to have a safe place. A place to ask for personal advice, learn more about mental health, self-care, and dealing with mental illness.
I have so many topics and journal prompts planned! I can’t wait to share them all with you!
